About Kathy Glass

As a former teacher and master teacher who holds current teaching certification, Kathy Glass now serves as a curriculum and instruction consultant. During her 17 years in education, Kathy has been involved in the following:

Publishing

  • Authored Curriculum Design for Writing Instruction: Creating Standards-Based Lesson Plans and Rubrics (2005, Corwin Press; Foreword by Carol Ann Tomlinson).
  • Authored Curriculum Mapping: A Step-by-Step Guide for Creating Curriculum Year Overviews (2007, Corwin Press; Foreword by Bena Kallick).
  • Is currently working on a project for the Parallel Curriculum Model with Carol Ann Tomlinson, Cindy Strickland, and the model's other authors;
  • Co-wrote lessons for a humanities series and served as literary consultant for D.C. Heath; reviewed selected publications for Great Source (Houghton Mifflin subsidiary).

Consulting/Presenting

  • Works with lead teachers and administrators to identify target areas needing support. Together she assists them in creating and executing a strategic plan for professional development customized to meet teachers' needs.
  • Conducts workshops and coaches teachers at various schools and educational settings on a myriad of instruction and curriculum topics; e.g., backward design for writing instruction, six traits of writing, curriculum design and development, differentiated instruction, instructional strategies, curriculum mapping, and more.
  • Creates or collaborates with teachers to produce comprehensive standards-based curriculum units incorporating assessments and differentiation.
  • Conducts lesson demonstrations and organizes classroom observations.
